| re: Now here's something you don't see everyday... | BVT Jun 6, 2002 3:25 AM | | Nice "buckshot" brake arch. Somebody had fun in shop class. I'd run not walk away from this old dog. |
| I dunno............. | heff® Jun 6, 2002 6:53 AM | | .......I certainly wouldn't put it on a bike anymore, but as an "oddity" in a collection, might be pretty cool.
Heck, I'm the one that bought a Manitou 700c fork (sold it to Shiggy, wonder if he ever used it), limited production made for Willit's 29" wheeled frames a few years back. Same crown.

| Collectible | BVT Jun 6, 2002 7:12 AM | | I'll grant you that. It would be a good conversation piece, or something to put on a Sunday cruiser bike (provided the guts worked adequately).
Aside: About seven years ago, I took a trip to NYC to visit a friend. He was using an early Foes Fab LTS monocoque (6" travel, huge Delrin pivot bushing) for what is now called freeriding. His buddy lent me a Manitou FS bike, which essentially had a telescopic fork on each end. We bombed around Central Park, dropping off rocks, logs, etc. We didn't think we were "freeriding," just having fun. Anyway, the Manitou bike was a little wishy-washy, but it sure beat my rigid Giant Iguana of the time. -BVT |
| Yep, I remember that bike........ | heff® Jun 6, 2002 10:03 AM | | .......Bradbury borrowed it from the Harley Softtail.....using front suspension legs for rear suspension. I believe another company also used it for MX bikes, and........don't quote me.......but, dang I can't remember the company.....used the same design, even after it was proven to be way flexy and binding at the end of the travel.
Heck, man, I did my first "freeriding" in 1976, give or take, on an avacado green Schwinn banana seat bike. Singlespeed, couldn't afford the StingRay back then. Silver glitter seat with black racing stripes, man I hit the jumps back then. I also bled alot, ask my mother.

| I OWN that bike... | DeeEight Jun 6, 2002 10:36 AM | | 1995 Manitou FS-DH frame, built up as a XC bike currently, 23 3/4 Ibs complete. A whopping 3.25" of rear travel. :) Balance and Marin also used that style suspension on models during the early to mid 90s. |
| yup, yer right. | heff® Jun 7, 2002 1:20 AM | | I was having a brain fart on that one, couldn't remember Balance. Oh well.
Can't be any worse than the Trek 9000 I used to own......remember THAT one?

| I've owned one also... 3 1/2 years... | DeeEight Jun 7, 2002 9:59 AM | | then sold it to a guy online, who was using it as a jump bike and snapped the mainframe after 2 months. |
