| FWIW Random Marzocchi info (long) | BVT Jun 6, 2002 3:58 AM | | I had some questions for Marzocchi, and here's what they told me (morphed from two emails). Their responses have "quotes:"
Marzocchi,
I'm considering the MXR, MXC-ECC, DJ2 or Z1Wedge. I'm 6'1, 225#, riding a 1998 FSR Ground Control Comp (large) in grimy New England. I ride mostly tight trails, with some honkin' fire road descents, and the occasional moderate urban assault run (no huge drops). I have some questions:
- Is the ECC available for the MXR? "It is not currently available. It should be shortly."
- Is the MXC-ECC available with coils, or does one have to buy the air version and convert it? "The MXC-ECC is air only. The pumping rod in the fork will not support a spring."
- Where is each fork manufactured (I know the entry-level EXR is made in Asia, for instance)? "[Both] are made in Italy."
- What are the major differences between the Wedge and DJ? "The DJ uses thicker walled stanchion tubes."
- Is there any damping adjustment at all on the DJ2? "Only by changing the oil weight."
- Which fork is ultimately more durable and why? "The DJ. See above."
- What is the approximate weight of the Wedge and DJ? "Both weigh in at just over 4 lbs."
- Can I change the 130mm travel, or do I have to buy the travel I want pre-set (I'd probably set it at 110mm)? "Travel can be changed by changing the top out and main springs."
- If so, does the travel adjust shorten the ride height accordingly? "yes."
- Can I upgrade to ECC in the future? "Yes, as the kit become availalble."
- Is the stock spring(s) realistically enough for me? How much $ to upgrade? "Spring kits run about $40.00"
- [Now for the wacko question] Will I be able to get a One Point Five steerer/crown some time in the future if I decide to replace my frame, or would I be better off just getting a new fork..? :) "We have no intentions of jumping on the 1.5 bandwagon."
That last answer is interesting! - BVT |
