| Paging Racer-X / HH100X owners: rear shock pressure | Mr. Waffle Jun 6, 2002 8:57 AM | | Just curious to see what sort of air pressure people are running in their rear shocks on Racer-X or Hammerhead frames.
I took my racer-X for the first test ride last night and was getting about 10mm of sag in the rear with only 90-100 psi (I weigh in around 180 w/ gear). This seems like less pressure than I would have thought.
Of course, this is my first FS ride, so I really have no idea what it should be... |
| Sounds low to me... | Metroid Jun 6, 2002 11:40 AM | | I'm about 170 lbs plus gear and I'm using about 125 psi in my Hammerhead. These shock gauges are pretty cheap though so I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the numbers. You might want to double check with another shock pump. The 10mm of sag sounds good though. |

| Sounds low..... | The Squeaky Wheel Jun 7, 2002 3:03 AM | | I'm about 170 w/ gear and I put 115 psi for a plusher ride and 120 psi for a snappier more responsive feel.
90-100 sounds real low for your weight. Make sure you check the sag correctly.

| Racer-X owner | pedalAZ Jun 7, 2002 9:05 AM | | I'm 180 lbs plus gear, and am running just shy of 120 lbs. |
| re: Paging Racer-X / HH100X owners: rear shock pressure | djp Jun 7, 2002 3:17 PM | | I'm 160-165 with gear and use 100 lbs pressure to get ~3/8 inch sag on my small RX. |
| forget the PSI readings.... | Hammerheadbikes Jun 8, 2002 8:52 AM | | measure sag, your pump may read 125 mine may read 135 someone elses 110...
I take a caliper and mark a line on the shaft at 3/8" from the seal with a sharpie
I intentionally overinflate (say like 160) and then have the rider get on the bike, get balanced in a riding position and then lightly bleed off air until the shock compresses to the 3/8" line
set the damper in the middle
have them ride it around for a few minutes and check it again
I set it at 3/8" (20%) and if they run a loaded camelback it will sag a tad more but not "too much"
