| Marzocchi cyro-fit creak: glue fix attempt -> failed | derby Jun 6, 2002 9:56 AM | | The cyro-fit crowns will probably all creak after some heavy use. If they were also glued when assembled this probably wouldn't be a problem due to the tight tolerance of glue compared to the cyro-fit shrink and expand to fit process used.
I tried dripping some green LocTite (which is a penetrating permanent glue) into any gap there may be in my x-fly 100 fork crown, with the fork upside-down and cleaned well in the area. Let it dry over night. But the fork still creaks as before in that area.
Any suggestions? I don't think this problem can even be fixed by warrantee replacement without an engineering redesign from Marzocchi.

Wondering what would happen if you just dripped some thick lube up in there? I don't think that would be a permanent fix, but it might quiet things down for a while.
I've recently acquired a new Vanilla R.... and the XFly is going up on the auction block once it comes back. That is the only solution I can come up with which will definately stop the creaking ;). Only had a couple of solid rides on the Vanilla, but so far, it has surpassed my expectations. If you get a chance to ride one, I'd recommend taking the opportunity.
It will be interesting to see what next years Marzocchis are like... any word on the street as to what they have planned?

| I'm waiting for Fox Forx prices to come down ... | derby Jun 7, 2002 10:48 AM | | ... or my income to go up!
They do feel sweet! Haven't ridden one but just by compressing them on different bikes around the booths at Sea Otter the Forx sure feels smooth and free acting.
Heard some rumor that Marzocchi will have 32 mm stansion for some single crown forks for '03. And active ECC. Sounds like the damping needs to be refined further too to match the Fox forks.
I'm pretty happy with my coiled x-fly 100. The creak I have is more of a tick or two, not very noticeable unless I'm looking for it. I guess I lucked out.
I might try penetrating oil or silicon spray into the crown stansion cyro-fit joints, but that also might accelerate the loosening which is what produces the creaking.

| Sorry to interrupt, but this creaking that . . . | Princess Fiona Jun 7, 2002 1:04 PM | | you're talking about, is it dangerous? The reason I am asking is because I have my eyes set on a 2001 X Fly 100 at my LBS. It's a sweet deal and I really love Marzocchi forks. However, this creaking that is being mentioned is kind of scaring me. The user reviews of this fork have been positive overall and if this creaking is just a random occurence, I'm still picking up this fork. Enlighten me. |

| Improvement but not success (fix attempt) | Marty D Jun 8, 2002 2:49 AM | | Hi, are you sure that creaking comes from fork crown? My X-Fly creaks from connection of brake arch and lower legs, there is visible movement when I twist either leg without wheel attached. I called local importer about this and asked about any DIY fixes (most important race/event coming in two weeks, don't want to send fork away just now) and they suggested taking fork apart and adding LocTite to arch/leg joint from inside, possibly removing old stuff first.
I didn't follow this but cleaned everything and added blue LocTite on outside of all joints (crown/stanchion and arch/leg) and let dry overnight. On a first ride after fix (about 5 hours) there was much less creaking but still some clicking when fork is compressed. I'm going to try adding LocTite again if it would help to further reduce creaks.
