Removing fork boots?(2 posts)

Removing fork boots?Alias

Can I take my fork boots off of my suntour xpc 75 that came with my giant warp ds3? I want to see how much travel I'm using (with a zip-tie) it seems to have good scrapers and it has pretty chrome legs hiding underneath. I know the suntour sucks but I hear that boots can actually but harmfull due to the fact of keeping the water in them. I ride mainly dry urban conditions with some hardpacked dirt trails if that helps at all. I see forks without boots but has anyone had any negitive experiences with it?

Yes, you can remove the boots. The Suntour xpc75 is just a simple coil fork, there's no oil bath or damping system to worry about, so there's nothing really to get dirty. As long as you keep the sliders clean and occasionaly put a bit of Judy Butter or other fork-suitable lube on them (which you should do with or without boots) it'll be fine.
