| Are most shocks Universally fit for most bikes? eom | amex18 Jun 7, 2002 3:37 AM | | |
| Nope. | tlg Jun 7, 2002 4:30 AM | | You're talking about suspension forks right?
Depends on the frame. Forks come in 60mm, 80mm, 100mm and longer travels. The frame of a bike is designed around one of them.
And then there is the sterrer tube (the part that goes through the head tube of your frame). Older or cheaper bikes have a 1" threaded tube which has a threaded headset. Newer ones have a 1-1/8" threadless tube which requires a threadless headset. And now there is a newer 1-1/4" threadless, but I doubt you have that. |
| thanks | Amex18 Jun 7, 2002 1:36 PM | | I really did not know all that info about front suspension, so it was a great help. I was thinking about purchasing some front suspension forks online, but now that you have told me all that, I think I should just wait until I take my bike to a pro shop. Thankyou for your information tlg. |
| Actually, 1-1/4" steerer tubes are not new... | AndyH Jun 7, 2002 3:31 PM | | ...they've been around for quite a long time, but have pretty much fallen out of favor as the 1-1/8" has more or less become the standard. You're probably thinking about the new "onepointfive" (1-1/2") that Manitou, Chris King and a few frame builders are endorsing for the "freeride" market (long-travel, single-crown forks over say 5"). |
| Oops yea. 1-1/2. I was off a 1/4" (nm) | tlg Jun 8, 2002 8:38 AM | | I said (nm) |
