| Front shock for Racer-X? | kinger Aug 9, 2002 9:02 AM | | I put this in the General forum but thought it may be more pertinent here:
Ok, I've decided on a new Titus Racer-X and have most of my parts picked out as well. The one piece I'm not sure of is the front shock. I will be racing this bike cross-country so I am building it as light as I can. With that in mind, I was going to get a RockShox SID SL. However, I've read some pretty negative things about it's durability and flex. I'm 6'1" and 175 lbs. so I'm definitely not a feather weight rider. Thoughts? Will the RockShox work for me? If not, is there another shock out there that is comparable in weight yet performs better? |
| Marathon......weighs more though | Markv Aug 9, 2002 12:17 PM | | I ride a Racer X with a Atom 80.....like the new Fox Float R. If weight is your major concern you could look at the Marzocchi Marathon. It's not as light as the SID SL, but it's a much better fork for someone who weighs 175 lbs. Oh....the Fox Float weighs 3.7 lbs and the Marathon 3.4 lbs. |
| get the 03 SIDor Duke SL with U-turn. The new SID is | Jakxc Aug 9, 2002 10:43 PM | | great performing fork that is even stiffer for '03. If weight is not a concern and you would like flexible adjustable travel on the fly, The Duke is a great choice.
Avoid the Black Elite Air cuz it's 80mm travel is MUCH less than a SID and less plush. It's 80mm in real life gets only a 65mm travel. RS will give you more than 90mm on their 80mm. Also Elite Air lock-out sucks due problem with not working most of the time. Seems like Manitou is pushing irregular Elite Air with not working lock-out are at blowout price. If you want to get a Black, get the Black Super with longer adjustable travel but they are 4lbs compared to 2.6lb for the Sid and 3.3 for the Duke Race which are super fork. If you are in Europe, get the RST Aerosa @ 3lbs and has 30mm stanchion tube at super price. |
