Z.2 Oil level / spring rate Q's(3 posts)

Z.2 Oil level / spring rate Q'seric wictor

Here's the deal: I'm 150-155 lbs and ride an FS bike with a 2001 Z2 Atom Race. 7.5 wt. oil (level: 35mm) and factory spec progressive rate springs.

Whatever I do, I can't get much more than 60mm of travel out of my 79mm travel fork.

I've tried lowering the oil level down to 40mm (the Marzo booklet states 30, but I figured I'd try), the result being a very noisy fork that still gets no more than 67 mm of travel.

Marzocchi USA says to lower my oil height even further, and my local importer says to just "accept that I can't use all of my travel".

So now I wonder if the progressive springs are a bit too progressive for me (I have 10mm sag, but don't get much travel). Can anybody give me advice regarding this? What springs could/should I use instead? How much would it help to reduce compression damping by switching to 5 wt. oil?

Thanks in advance :0)

I would go to the linear rate medium springs and 5 wt oil. At 150 you definitley shouldn't need to go to the "soft" springs in order to get full travel.

I may convert the left side of my fork to air, also. Since Atom Sport air valves aren't sold in Europe, I may contact you in a few weeks.
