| Suspension seatposts - Do they really work? | VW Geek Aug 12, 2002 4:55 AM | | Do suspension seatposts like Rock Shox units really work effectively? I've gotten beat up on some of my rides on my hardtail and am thinking this may be a cost effective way to help a bit. Also, anyone know where any good deals are on one of these posts?
Thanks!

| Yes, and no. | Gavin Aug 12, 2002 5:35 AM | | Depends what you want it to do, and what kind of riding.
I rode a USE seatpost for about 2 years on a hardtail. I was riding marathons (6 hours plus) and it was great for smoothing out the poundings you take after several hours in the saddle. It really helps your ass and legs from getting beaten up. My USE lasted the two years, needed occasional maintenance and some replacement parts (eg bushings). I didn't notice any problems with lost energy or a variable riding position which the theorists whine about.
It is not a substitute for full suspension which I eventually upgraded to. You still need to stand out of the saddle (eg on bumpy downhill sections) where you could stay seated on a full suspension.
On the whole is was worth the $$$. |
