| Tuning recommendations for 2002 RockShox Judy XC on Giant NR | Matthew Ian Loew Aug 12, 2002 8:35 AM | | I know it is an entry-level fork, but the ride on my Judy XC has been awful. I had a seal blow out on the Judy after the first ride. See http://forums13.consumerreview.com/crforum?viewall@@.ef57843 for the full skinny. Fortunately, the LBS replaced it with a Marzocchi MXC for me to ride around on while RS repaired my original fork. Really liked the feel of this fork.
The Judy feels like it is bottoming out all the time. Makes a lot of noise on rough trails. Not very confidence inspiring.
Any advise on set-up?
Thanks! |

Maybe you have the wrong springs for your weight? Go to the web site and view the chart for your desired part # and oil weight. Also the right leg now holds 130cc of oil.
"Makes a lot of noise on rough trails"
What kind of noise? A creak in the stem? That's play. Grinding in the leg? Make sure the springs were properly lubed (unless it's an oil bath - I forgot). Also RS sells some type of 'insulator' that goes on the spring. And set your sag correctly. |
| Yes, go to www.rockshox.com and... | Squash Aug 13, 2002 2:58 AM | | download the quick start manual and the owner's manual for the Judy SL and XC from the technical support section. You will note that in the manual it refers to setting sag via increasing or decreasing the air pressure in the fork. The 02 Judy XC uses a coil spring with air assist. To increase sag lower the air pressure to decrease sag increase the air pressure. Recommended pressures for a given rider weight are given in both manuals. It would also be a good idea to download the 2002 Judy SL and XC service manual. This manual gives procedures for complete cleaning and service, oil volumes and procedures for adding oil (it't not just a straight pour it in the top type thing), and travel adjustment. Sounds more like you have a set up problem than anything else.
