| ATF works well | derby Aug 12, 2002 12:08 PM | | At the recommendation of many on this board, for 2 years in my x-flys I've been using Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) - Dextron type. (Don't use ATF "for older transmissions", they have seal swellers in them). It feels slightly lighter in weight than the stock Golden Specto 7.5 weight. I adjusted the rebound 1/2 turn slower to compensate. ATF can be found at any auto store for about $2 a quart.

| ATF, Silkolene, .... | logbiter Aug 14, 2002 11:36 AM | | Derby is right on.
Just about any motorcycle suspension FORK oil will work just fine... lots cheaper than stuff branded as bicycle fork oil (and it's the same stuff). I've used ATF dextron with good results as well, but golden spectro & silkolene seem to work the best. I now use the ATF to 'rinse' out the innards when I'm changing oil. I've had my local moto shop order silkolene for me, since that's not a brand they usually carry. I've also ordered online from these guys (http://www.motoliberty.com) but they don't seem to carry fluids anymore on their website.
yep, and don't get anything with seal swellers.
good luck,
