| 2001 Z3 QR20--Aftermarket or OEM? | slowride Oct 17, 2002 8:04 AM | | Is there a way to tell for sure, like color? I want to make sure I can convert it to 130mm travel before buying, and I found a discussion int he archives about a Z3 QR20 from a P3 not being able to be converted. Any help out there?
TIA! |
| Its OEM... | zedro Oct 17, 2002 6:36 PM | | so it may or may not be 130mm compatible. Best way to make sure is by comparing the depth of the hollow area on the lowers at the dropouts with a 130mm fork (the space is around 15mm deep BTW, in case you have nothing to compare too :).
NEVER go by color on Marzocchis, no matter what anyone says. |
| Slight clarification... | slowride Oct 17, 2002 7:03 PM | | I don't know for sure that the fork is from a P3 (or a Kona, for that matter).
So some OEMs are 130mm compatible? How confusing!
Can you tell by the steerer length? This one is (I think) 330mm, which seems very long for OEM... don't they usually size them to the bike?
I'll have to see if I can find out the hollow area lilke you were talking about.
Thanks! |
| forget about everthing else... | zedro Oct 18, 2002 9:23 AM | | and just check that hollow space, that will determine everything, and nothing else.
Ya OEM stuff is confusing, blame it on the bike manufacturers trying to cheapen a product. Z3 and Z5 stuff is usually a good indication of OEM, which can be a mishmash of zoke parts. Sometimes 130mm lowers are used in the 100mm package, sometimes they're not. |
