Potential Black Fork Issue(5 posts)

Potential Black Fork IssueCnemie

I discovered today that my left fork leg has a grey foam ring sticking half-way out of the rubber boot. Somehow I doubt this is a good thing. What does it mean? Thanks.

I do not know much about the black but I know my Judy SL has a foam ring under each fork seal. It is supposed to be re lubricated every 25 hours. Sounds like that may be what is sticking up out of your shock. It may have gone dry and stuck to the stanchion. All you may have to do is pull up the seal, lube the ring and put it all back together.
Yeah, carefully pry the boot up off the fork lowers,Tscheezy

squeeze any water out of the foam ring by pressing it with a paper towel against the stantion tube (fork leg), slide it down into the well where the stantion tube inserts into the lowers, lube it well with fork oil or some triflow or something like that, and reinstall the boot.
It does not go under the seal.fonseca

That foam ring simply goes right inside the top of the mini boot. If you squeeze your other boot you can see one at the top of it. It's not a big deal and you haven't damaged your fork. Try to work it back in without stretching the boot too much.

i was kicked off-line and i'm not going to re-type what i've writen. go to http://answerproducts.com/ and then click on tech support. click on the black owners' manuel. the company that created your fork can give you way more info than consumers & home mechanics.
