| '00 Z1 bushing replacement and other ?'s | jsarcione Oct 19, 2002 10:49 AM | | Has any tried replacing their own bushings in a '00 (or similiar year/model) Marzocchi Z1?? Can it be done or does this need to be done by Marzocchi? If it can, how about some advice on where to get them (online) and how it's done? I can do it at my LBS as they let me use tools/stand/etc as needed. I have replaced bushings in rear shocks before but those are easy. Who makes the best aftermarket replacement arch? Will a new arch make the fork stiffer fore/aft??? Really wanted a "demon" arch but not made anymore. |

After the oil seal is out the bushings just slide out. You can get replacements a lot of places; look at www.thebikeco.com for a price. You will need to devise a method to press the oil seals in or buy the special Marzocchi tool -- if you lube the new seals with silicone spray they go in pretty easily.
Don't know about aftermarket arches but I'd be surprised if you get an increase in stiffness.

Anyways, i would only get an aftermarket brace if you bent your current one (it does happen, the stock arches are stiff but not excessively strong).
I agree the bushing removal is easy, just be PATIENT, or you can gouge out stuff when removing the seals and snap ring. If you are not mechanically inclined to any degree, then it might be best to get someone else to do it. |
