I have a Headshock Fatty D that clunks pretty hard when it tops out...sounds like metal on metal and feels awful. There's also about a quarter inch of play when I lock it out. Cannondale wouldn't give me a straight answer other than to say have a shop check it out (2 hour drive). Any idea's? By the way my shock has the spring...no air. I'll appreciate any feedback, thanks.

since it's been nearly 2 years since any of us did a Headshock service at the shop, I think I recall your symptom being air in the damper. I believe that damper had to be bled of all air, or you got that knocking or play that you describe. Maybe other mechs will confirm this or have another diagnosis.
The reason it's been about 2 years in our area is because we sold very few, and those that had them either got rid of them or swapped the Headshock for conventional forks.
