| Marzocchi EXR Air's | senojnw Oct 19, 2002 10:46 PM | | Decided to let a bit of air out of my forks today for the first time, and noticed that when I did this some oil sprayed out... I know that they are open bath but didn't think it was all in the same chamber?? sound normal?
Also - can any pump with an accurate pressure measurement be used on these forks or does it need to be a Marzocchi fork pump?
Thinking of changing oil thats all as stiction has increased since I bought them and they sound a bit rattly on the small bumps... |
| Not unccomon to get a little oil spray.... | Squash Oct 20, 2002 5:51 AM | | when letting air out. Esspecially if the fork has been recently ridden or has been turned up side down. There is oil in both legs for the fork. You can use any SHOCK pump that you like to inflate the fork. But a LOW PRESSURE shock pump is best. Marzocchi uses a high volume, low pressure system that is quite sensitive to small changes in air pressure, 1 or 2 psi changes can make a noticeable differnce in the forks feel and performance. As far as the fork sounding "rattly", it's most likely brake cables, brake arms, levers and other stuff attached to the fork, or handle bars that are rattling when you hit the small stuff due to the stiction induced stiffness of the fork. There isn't anything in or about the fork that should rattle as long as all bolts and fasteners are secured and properly torqued. If there is an actual rattle coming from the fork and not stuff attached to it (head set, brake bolts etc.) then you have a PROBLEM and need to have the fork checked out! The oil change should help you stiction/small bump performance. My recommendation on the pump is get the Zocch low pressure model or find a low pressure SHOCK pump and you'll be in good shape. A regular high pressure fork pump will do, but won't be as accurate in setting the pressure correctly. You can't just use ANY air pump with a attached gauge for your fork. It needs to be a shock pump.

| will do | senojnw Oct 22, 2002 4:39 AM | | The bike had just been transported on a roof rack on rough road so... It feels like the headset rattling a little, but have checked and thats all fastened down hard - so have pretty much decided that it is just stiction in the first 5mm or so of the travel as the fork is a lot harder and stiction has definitely increased since I bought it. Silicon spray doesn't seem to help a hell of a lot (as recommended by Zocc).
Will give the oil change a go when I feel like I know enough about what I am doing and have the fork pump...
Cheers! |
