Shock for IF Deluxe - recommendations?(2 posts)

Shock for IF Deluxe - recommendations?SGG

I just purchased an Independent Fabrications Deluxe (steel) frame. The IF website says that they are designed for an 80 mm RockShox fork. As long as the rake and travel are the same, wouldn't I be able to use any fork?

Also, I am trying to build this up as a light XC racing bike, so am leaning toward the lighter shock models - SID, Duke XC, Manitou Black. Can anyone give me any recommendations for models that are light, durable, low maintenance (I know, "light, cheap, durable, pick two", but I'm willing to spend more to save some weight and improve the performance.) For comparison, I am 6' 2" tall, 160 - 170#, smooth rider from riding fully rigid for 10+ years, no freeriding or DH racing here.

Yes, you can use any fork with 80mm of travel. Depending on how you set up your bike you could also use shorter or longer forks.
SID's are light but probably the least durable and certainly the least rigid of the forks you list. Since you're used to rigid forks you'll notice the flex. The Black Elite Air is noted for it's stiffness and has a proven damping system. The Duke is similar but a bit heavier. For something lighter you might check out Manitou's Skareb. Check out the Fox's too
