| Any Loco owners running 4.75" in back with a 5" fork? | LocoToo Jan 8, 2003 5:58 PM | | I'm running 4.5 in back and 4 up front with excellent results. It's a great ride. Anything to be gained (or lost) by going to 5?

Thanks,

| I have tried it with 4.75 and my current x-fly 100... | LocoToo Jan 9, 2003 8:00 AM | | The rear feels a bit more plush in 4.75 but I felt I should keep the f&r more balanced by staying at 4.5. I like the idea of going to 130mm in the front but I am concerned about a wandering front-end on steep climbs. My Loco is the beefy Y2K model, before Titus "lightened" it up a bit. Great ride.

Have you ever wished you had a lockout on this bike? Allen at Titus says it isn't needed. In response to your original question....I will in the future get either an adjustable travel..or a 5" fork for the Loco.
Thanks again,
Dave |
| You are correct, it's a Float R... | LocoToo Jan 9, 2003 10:07 AM | | and I've never wished for a lockout. In fact, coming off a hardtail, I was surprised at how much climbing ability the Loco had. The suspension works really well and it's very simple. Good luck.

| re: Any Loco owners running 4.75" in back with a 5" fork? | GeoffW Jan 10, 2003 1:57 PM | | I had a 2002 Loco Moto with a 4" Xvert for a while, and then a Vanilla R set to 125mm for a while. While the 4" fork railed corners a bit better, the 5" setting was more fun to ride with, the bike to me felt more balanced in the 4.75" mode with a 5" fork up front. Even with the extra travel up front, climbing was not a problem. I really liked the 5"/4.75" setup, was an awesome all around bike that youcould do almost anyhting with |

I use a seat post QR to attach the front of the shock so I can quickly change the rear settings. 4" for on the road and smooth rides, 4.75" for rough stuff. Works great! Mike |

| 2003 Z1 and no rear lockout | watermoccasin Jan 12, 2003 12:30 PM | | I got my LocoMoto with a Float RL on it, tried it on one ride, and swapped my friend for her Float R. The bike feels efficient on fire roads without the lockout, and much more comfortable.
As for forks, I ran a Duke XC 100mm for a while, then switched to a 2003 Z1. I prefer the Z1 for everything - best fork I've ever used. It feels more "moto" and less "twitchy racer" - the geometry still felt quick but a little more stable and much more confidence-inspiring on downhills. The front end is very light on steep 1st gear climbs, unless you engage the ECC and then it is lower and climbs noticably better than with the 100mm fork. I love the ECC because it gives you an xc racer on the uphills and a freerider on the downhills, and you can turn it on or off while riding. |
