| Questions on my '02 Z1 FR | ET_SoCal Jan 9, 2003 1:29 PM | | OK, been riding on my new fork for a few weeks now & got a few questions:
1) When you first lock it down, and don't compress it, there's a bit of a negative bump (when riding). It feels like the headset is loose, but it's in the fork. It takes over an inch compression before this neg slack goes away: Is this normal?
2) I've jumped as hard as I could with the ECC locked & it seems to have about 2" left on the sliders before the very the bottom, I haven't tried a tie-wrap and ride aggressively to verify that's as far as it goes. Is this correct? |

2/ Are you nuts? You testing the can-I-break-it-in-a-way-specifically-not-recommended factor? Would you like the resultant geometry if it was able to go lower? You don't believe the info that came with the fork? Just curious... |

No but deal, there's no problem with the ECC not engaged; I'm thinking it has something to do the neg spring?
2) I'm not jumping that hard on the bars compressing the fork, just pushing down with most of my weight (185) then giving it a little more to see if it compresses a bit more, thinking that last inch is more harder for not bottoming-out. You think I'm breaking it?
And Yes, during steep uphill climbs I'd like the geometry to be lower, but testing using the ECC & not testing it on the same hill I can still ride up the hill (aka - nose in the crack)... |
| my '02 Z1 FR | Chris B Jan 11, 2003 1:13 AM | | 1/ Actually it's the same with some others too, as it's a rebound lockout, and really isn't "engaged" until you compress the fork to lock it in position, which is fixed.
2/ This fork isn't meant to be ridden but uphill in the locked out position; the manual says it's a safety issue but I assume if you pound it hard enough locked down you can damage it, but I'm not sure (anyone else?). I thought you were actually jumping it; I've seen posts where people think it's a good position for trials moves too. There are variations of ECC that come on their air forks and the newer Z1, where you get various "lockout" positions or limited travel. |
