Time for a fork upgrade.. will a 2003 Marzocchi SL 85 mm fit my old frame, a 98 Klein Attitude? Guess 80 mm is the minimum travel these days.
Sure It'll fit...Squash

no reason why it wouldn't. Just get the 85mm travel model and your good to go. The 98 Model Klein/Fisher/Trek bikes whether hard tail or full suspension easily handle 80mm travel forks with out screwing up geometry or handling to great extent. 100mm of travel would have a noticeable affect though. So go with the 85mm Sl and you should be fine. Just don't buy the 105mm travel model and think you can reduce the travel if you want. You can do that with the Marthon S, but not the SL. At least not easily and/or cheaply. The SL is a total air fork with positive and negative air chambers and as such requires quite a bit of modification to change the travel.

Lars,

I had a 98 Pulse Comp and now a 2003 Attitude Comp.

The 2003 SL will fit but will mess up the geometry just a little.
I have a 2002 Marathon S 80mm on my 03 Klein now an 2 days on the 98 pulse. The bike came with a 75mm 98 Manitou Spyder. Then I put a 2001 Marzocchi X-Fly 80mm it was great.

The 2002 Marathon is slightly longer axle to crown height than most 80mm for and more than the X-Fly.
It HAS slightly changed the handling of the bike. The front end is slightly higher. Feels fine but you can notice the height difference, BUT I have no complaints on the handling.

I would suggest instead of a 2003 Marathon SL 85mm get the 2002 Marathon S 80mm at a better price and lighter weight. The 2002 is basically the same thing but the 2003 has the new ETA instead of the ECC.

Speedgoat.com and Larry Menter @ http://www.mtnhighcyclery.com/ have the 2002 for $375 shipped.
