tuning Judy SL with oil weight?(1 post)

tuning Judy SL with oil weight?BrianL

I have an '01 Judy SL, run at 100mm, with yellow springs, to match my 150lb weight (according to the RS spring chart 120-150lb at 100mm), and I run no preload, so they should be a bit soft if anything, but I usually max at 80-85mm travel (measured up from seals to tie wrap). The fork isn't bad but seems a *bit* harsh in repeated hits (roots, rocks).

I'm wondering if changing from the current 5wt oil to 2.5wt would make any difference in compression. Would they use more travel, and suck things up a bit smoother? I'd heard the Judy has a blowoff ("homer") valve, so I'm not sure if oil weight affects compression spikes...
