tracer shock options(5 posts)

has anyone tried other rear air shocks on a tracer?Cane Creek,Rockshock,or any of the new air platforms?I'd like to improve the rear travel ride quality or to add a little more length to the ride.If I reduce the air pressure enough to get that last bit of travel from the fox it slams through the inital travel to get there. Thanks for any info.

I checked with Cane Creek and they said theirs don't fit the Tracer.
I didn't check RS. I bought a coil shock and like it much better.
Fox may have add on air chamber increase for Float shocksderby

I read somewhere a few months ago the new AVA or Tallis Fox shock has an additional air chamber that increases usable travel depth and make the Fox air more linear. The extra chamber can be sealed off from the main body to shorten rear travel. The article said the adaptor could be retro fitted to older Floats shocks. You'll have check with Fox directly about that. And it would probably fit the Tracer. And likely get that last inch of usable travel with a normal sag set up out of the Float.

The lack of full travel with the Float was one reason I went to a Vanilla-R coil on my Tracer. It was so worth it too. But the fork needs to be of the highest stiction free in quality to match the ride quality of the Tracer in the rear with a Vanilla-R. (Probaly the Vanilla-R Fox Forx would match the best.) I have a coiled x-fly and it's not as smooth feeling as the rear shock now but it's pretty good, noticably smoother than when it was an air fork.

I'm using a XVERT AIR which has a coil for the initial travel. It has
the TPC+ and enables the fork to react to small hits. I do plan on
trying the Fox coil fork this year. I think I would like an on the fly
80-100mm coil fork to help with steep climbing.
