Question about Fox Vanilla RL rear shock spring replacementmtnbiker62

Hi all. I just purchased a Jamis Dakar XLT 1.0, equipped with a Fox Vanilla RL rear shock. The stock spring was too small for my (considerable) bulk, so I called Fox, and ordered the spring the recommended. It was delivered to me, but before I install it, I need to have a question answered. The original shock was marked 500 X 2.30, which I understood to mean 500 lbs. X 2.3 inch stroke on the shock. The new one, is marked 750 (I told you I was considerably bulky) X 2.20. My question is: do I have the right length shock...are the 2.30 and the 2.20 compatible? Thanks in advance.

ya the 750 has bit less travel or stroke because it is wound with thicker wire to make it heavier. have fun .

Are the lenght the spring will compress before it starts to bind. AS long as the shocks stroke is less than the spring compression travel your OK. If the stroke is greater then the springs compression then the spring will bind and may lead to failure.
