| Toying with my Dakar...help? | sdbullock Mar 17, 2003 10:33 AM | | I've been thinking of adding a slightly longer length (i to i) shock to compensate for a slightly slackened head angle from a 5 inch fork on my Dakar, and at the same time increasing rear-wheel travel with a longer stroke shock. Cane Creek (probably shock of choice, but i am open to suggestions here, too) sells their shocks in every length imaginable (light, too!), so i could really dial it in there by increasing length (i to i) by 10% (165 to 180 mm) and stroke by 33% (from 1.5" to 2"). Not only would travel and handling be changed to for the better, but my bottom bracket height would be akin to a Tracer's. Sound feasible to anyone, or am i playing with fire? Would changing the effective length (shock i to i, again) between the rocker link and frame pivot weaken anything or shift the intended stress-bearing points on the frame to points designed to bear less stress? Thanks--

| I think it would work fine, if | derby Mar 20, 2003 1:23 PM | | if there was plenty of link travel clearance. With an air shock you'd effectively be increasing air volume and top out height. So you could use about the same air pressure or a little less for more sag and not stress anything significantly extra. Unless you started doing bigger hucks and raised the air pressure well above what you used to use just to avoid bottom out, then you'd be adding stress to the links and pivots over what you do now.
