| Dude, you are EVERYWHERE! | Tscheezy Mar 18, 2003 8:22 PM | | The correct spring on a given bike and a given shock depends on two things: your weight and your riding style. The heavier you are, and the more aggressively you ride, the higher the spring rate (the first number on the spring) you need. A 500# spring on a Fox equipped XCE would suit a recreational rider (goes at moderate speeds, does not do jumps or really slam the bike into stuff) weighing up to about 170 pounds with gear (clothes, camelback, water, does not include the bike itself). If you ride more aggressively (really descend hard on rough trails, maybe catch a little air) the max weight a 500# spring would allow would be a rider up to about 150 pounds with gear.
Note that these are ESTIMATES based on my XCE and my girlfriend's XCE spring rates and I arrived at them through a simple ratio. Call Fox and Turner to get the official word.
Nice bike by the way.
