Is the Psylo SL a good XC fork?(7 posts)

Is the Psylo SL a good XC fork?WhiskeySam

I want to upgrade my Judy XC on my GF hardtail. Would that be a good fork for this bike? Aside from the negative comments I expect to receive about Rock Shox, I just want to know if this set up would work?, or if there is a more practical XC fork for the same money. I already purchased the fork, mostly because I got a good deal on it, (2003 Psylo SL, paid 285.00 otd), but I have not put it on yet. I noticed right away that it is about 2-3 inches longer than the Judy. Thanks for your comments.

I use mine for everything from light FR (125mm) to XCMackie

(100mm) to the road ride home (80mm). It's a good all around fork. if you are riding PURELY XC, then a Duke might work better, as it's lighter.
I have been a pretty big fan of RS, but there ARE some durability issues.

What exactly is "freeriding" referring to? Not to sound stupid, but I am not clear on what that refers to. Thanks for the input.
Well, for me, light freeride refers toMackie

ridding a little more agressively than standard XC. A local trail comes to mind that has some ladders, and a few small drops (4.5 feet or less). That's light freeride, by my definition. That is, light compared to what others do. For me, 4 feet is scarry as hell! 8-/
Hope that helped.
YES! Its an awesome XC fork...CruzDemon

I used mine for freeriding for about a year on my SC Chameleon, then I bought a VPS Shore for fooling around on instead.

So I retired my Chameleon to XC racing and riding, and the Psylo is great. Smooth, stiff and the lockout is superb. I could not be bothered by the complications and maintenance of an air fork, so the SL is perfect in that respect.

No complaints thusfar.

for the price Rockshox cant be beat. You could have spent almost 3 times more money and gotten a Fox Talas but in the $300 range nothing comes close.
Make sure you get the proper springs...SmooothJazzIsTerrible

for your body weight.

I had a Psylo and rode stock and didn't like it. Felt like an air fork and I didn't get any of the coil sprung small bump sensitivity.

But it was my bad, I bought the softer springs and the fork was great.

Factor $30 into the price for springs incase you are outside of the stock springs range.
