| Anybody ride a Manitou Skareb? | Lozes Mar 19, 2003 7:25 AM | | What are your impression about this fork.What does it weight?Thanks |
| I do... | Darrell Mar 19, 2003 1:17 PM | | I've got a 2003 Skareb Super 80mm on my new Racer X. I love it. Just spent a few days riding Bootleg Canyon and Blue Diamond/Cottonwood in Las Vegas and Boulder City. Bootleg has some seriously technical trails and this fork was flawless. The whole time riding I kept mumbling " I can't believe this is an air fork ". Anyhow, it's great. It weighed 1463grams (3.2 lbs) and 1413grams (3.1 lbs) after I cut it and removed the V-brake studs. |
| Yup | Grant Mar 20, 2003 5:36 PM | | I have been riding a skareb comp, the low end model, for about a month now. I weigh about 175 lbs and I have the stcok coil kit in the shock.
I can't remember the weight, but I know it weighs less than either of the Rockshox Duke XC models. This model is coil sprung and oil damped with adjustable compression and rebound damping.
So far, so good. Once you get it dialed in, it's smooth. It's quite something. On the course I raced on last weekend, there was one section of trail that passed through a bed of about 10 roots, 2-4 inches in diameter, in the space of about four feet. The shock ate it up. Conversley, the way I had the damping set absolutely did not have me bobbing on the way up any climbs.
I would recommend it. |
| I'm having issues with mine | MellowCat Mar 21, 2003 9:39 PM | | I have the skareb comp, came on my Epic. Its a nice fork, but kinda flexy back to front. Last weekend I was riding a rougher section of trail when I started having issues with the lockout automatically coming on. Very strange, and poorly timed. Most larger hits caused the lock to activate. Major pain. Not sure what happened, the LBS is still working on it. |
