Manitou Pro - Can they be rebuilt?Fred the Cross Poser

Hey folks -

Just about the last thing that came as stock on my 1998 Specialized Rockhopper still on the bike is its Manitou Pro. I have read the archives (thanks Dougal for all the info!) and realize the fork is quite primitive, but can it be built into something much better using the casing and some aftermarket internals?

H'mmm, maybe I should just buy a used Mars Super...

Thanks in advance!
Ditch the Manitou Pro & get a new fork.........Marz Fan

Yes they're easily rebuilt, just undo the lower bolts and pull the legs off. Clean, regrease and you're done.

There's not a whole lot you can do with the fork performance wise. Some could be fitted with the FS Ti/Palmer damper, but they'd be hard to source now. An improvement could be had by going to a half spring/ half mcu setup and installing longer and softer topout bumpers.

It's worth keeping the fork for something like a commuting bike.
