Changing spring in 2001 Manitou X-Vert Air(4 posts)

Changing spring in 2001 Manitou X-Vert AirTony in Nashvegas

I'm puzzled!!! I backed off the nut on the spring assembly side of my x-vert fork expecting to see an mcu and spring. All there was was a rod with two different O-rings spaced out a bit. According to Answers website there should be a spring in the top side of the shock. Have any of you changed these springs out? The only think I can think of is that the spring is on the same side as the air cushioned side but I wouldn't think so?

Which side of the fork did you take apart? Maniotou air forks have a short spring on the left side (the same side as the air chamber) to help with small bump absorbtion. The right side is the "twin piston" dampening unit. It sounds like you took apart the piston on the dampening side of the fork.

I took the nut off the right hand side. Looking back at the diagram on their website I found out that it is on the same side as the air assembly. I was assuming that "air" was on one side and "spring" on the other. Thanks

Tony,

Tto change Springs in a X-Vert Air. Remove the bolts in the bottom of the fork, left side needs a 4mm allen, rhs needs a 8mm allen after you remove the Rebound adjusted nob, it just pops off. Hint to remove the air/ spring side bolt keep the air pressure at 80-100 psi so the shaft does not rotate.
Now remove the lower fork legs by hitting down on the arch with your hand.
On the LHS the air side there is a plastic nut threaded into the inner stantion. Reomve this nut (use a large cresent) and the internal compression rod, and spring assembley will come out with it.
Change the spring , grease it up and put it all back together. (hint leave the air chamber pressurised to screw back in the allen bolt on that side.

Good luck
HoJo
