Length of Float R(4 posts)

Length of Float RE:\Drive

What is the length of this shock? I'm assuming it's an '03 as I just purchased an '03 Jamis. If I measure it myself, what are the starting & ending points for measuring?

I need to adjust the dag and Fox's owner manual lists various shock lengths along w/recommended sag.

Measure from the center of one bolt to the center of the other bolt. This gives you the eye to eye length. The other measurement is the stroke length. This is measured by letting the air out of the shock, and compress the shock to it's bottom out. measure the eye to eye again, the difference is the stroke length. These measurements are needed if you ever go to replace the shock. Example: the shock form my Gemini is 7.875" eye to eye, 2.25" stroke. To measure the sag, you want the shock to settle 1/4 to 1/3 of the STROKE length. (not the overall length.)

With the shock inflated, measure the distance between the two shock mounting bolts (eye-to-eye length). Take note of this number (A). Let all the air out of the shock and compress it fully. Re-measure the eye-to-eye distance (B). The difference between (A) and (B) is your shock's stroke. Sag will be measured as a % of this number.

Using a rubber o-ring or zip tie on the shock's shaft can determine the same thing.

A lot of 4" travel bikes have a shock size of 6.5" eye-to-eye x 1.5" stroke, but since the Dakar has 90mm rear travel, the stroke may be less.

I was under the impression the Dakar Comp had 4" of rear travel.
