I currently have a Marzo Atom Race 100mm on my NRS and I changed the SID shock for the Cane Creek Cloud Nine. I do some aggressive XC and some light downhill/freeride. I'm not very heavy (150lbs).

I really like this bike but in my mind if you don't plan to do XC racing, then the original 80mm is not enough for this bike. I think 100mm is great for overall XC but I look forward to buying myself the new Fox Tallas. Hopefully I don't crack my frame but I'm confident not to since I'm not heavy. With a Fox at 125mm, I'll have a downhill geometry (68 degree head angle) but then pushing it down to 80mm I'll have an XC geometry (70 degree head angle).

Hope it helps. Looking forward for other comments.

I have a 2002 Marathon, and AD12 on the rear. My other NRS has a Duke 100 and SID on the rear. I really like 100mm travel with this frame, and the one with the Marzocchi and Cane Creek is a great trail bike.
