Shocks for riders 250lbs+Joe L.

Hello, One more newbie here. I'm 6'3 approx. 270lbs. Any suggestions on what I should shoot for regarding a front shock and maybe even rims? Usage expected to be light XC/singletrack at best.

I don't know your budget, but I weight 250 and I'm happy with my new 2002 Marzocchi EXR coil fork. I found a great deal on it at PricePoint, but I don't know if they have any left. Still, it's solid and affordable, even if it isn't the lightest on the market at 4+ pounds. I got a killer deal at about $150.

For shocks, I would look for at least 30mm stanctions. At the cheaper end, look at Marzocchi EXR or Rock Shock Duke Line. At the mid to higher end, look at Manitou Black or Sherman (for long travel) or Fox Forx. Keep in mind that if you buy a coil spring fork, you'll need to upgrade to the firmest spring (usually around $40) so budget that in. For wheels, look for rims that are wider and stouter. The less expensive option is the popular Sun Rhyno Lite (or Singletrack if disc specific). Spend more and you can get the more durable and better made Mavic D521 (or D321 for disc specific). Hubs with larger axels and high flanges such as the Shimano Deore or XT disc hubs will be plenty stout as will going 36 holes instead of the standard 32. Steer clear of titainium anywhere (such as axels, skewers, ect.).
