| Air pressure problems in Fox TALAS | DudeOnABike May 21, 2003 9:07 AM | | I know this is probably a dumb question and has been asked before, but i'm posting this anyway. I have just bought a new TALAS RL and it is my first air fork. I just dont know what to pump the pressure to. For my weight (150), It says to pump it up to 65 psi. I did this, and I got about 50% sag. I've pumped it up to over 100 now, and it still sags waaaaay too much. I know other forks have more than one valve to put air in, does my fork? I've been putting the air in the valve through the TALAS knob. Can someone please set me straight here?
Thanks,

| re: Air pressure problems in Fox TALAS | dbAbuser May 21, 2003 9:51 AM | | I have actually never checked the sag on my Talas - haven't had the time since I installed it. I set the air pressure to the recommended amount, added a few psi to get the feel right, and then haven't touched it since, except for travel adjustments and a click or two on the rebound.
You might check it with another pump to make sure yours isn't faulty. I'm 190, running 100psi roughly, and know it's nowhere near 40 mm of sag, which is what yours would be best case if it's 50% of your travel... |
| Someone else just reported this but fixed it | J.S. May 21, 2003 10:11 AM | | Add another 10psi first, then check sag again (there's always a possibilty of bad pressure gauge calibration or air temperature variance).
Someone else just reported getting similar excess sag on a TALAS despite hitting 110 psi, but he supposedly fixed it by turning the blow-off threshold knob full clockwise. In reality, this knob SHOULDN'T have any effect on sag, but what the heck, try it and please tell us what happens.
You can always bring it back to your LBS or Fox. |
| Check for sticky valve core | rodiS May 21, 2003 12:57 PM | | My Talas RLC had a sticky valve core. Everytime, I've detached the pump I've been loosing a lot of air.
Spraying a little air on the valve core and pushing it down a few times cured the problem defenitely.
