what does adjusting preload do?kizzle my nizzle

new to this forum so bear with me.....I just got a FS bike with a coil shock and am tring to figure out what the preload adjustment does.....bike is a K2 Evo pro with Noleen coil shock. What will increasing preload do. or decreasing. Will one firm it up and the other make it more plush? PLEASE HELP

...for a coil and airshock respectively. All you are doing is compressing a coil spring "some" to get the correct ride height, resistance so it doesn't bottom, etc...assuming you have the right spring for your weight. preloading is a way to fine tune a given spring(in a fork or rear shock)for a persons preferences. Most shocks have a treaded collar on the body that can move up or down the body of it to accomplish this before hand(meaning before its compressed from ones body/bike weight). Get it? Simple really.
Changes the ride height. nmDougal
