| pressure for AD5 in my fuel | pg_PL May 21, 2003 11:59 PM | | Hi,
I just got my first FS frame. It is trek fuel 90 2003, I have a cane creek AD5 shock there and I weigh 180lbs. What is the pressure I should start my adjustments with? Do you think it is worth upgrading this shock to some other like cloud nine, some fox float, SID or maybe DT swiss? I am going to do endurance races on this bike.
Is it possible to adjust damping in this shock?
Thanks

| "pressure" is not "absolute" - | PabloCruiseControl May 22, 2003 4:05 AM | | Adjust pressure until you obtain the proper amount of sag - it's not really practical to say, "Oh, OK - you weight XXX pounds, you need XXX pounds of pressure in your shock, as different people have different riding positions whichy will have some affect on sag (for example, someone with a set back seatpost and seat pushed back and short stem would probably need a lil more pressure than someone with straight seatpost, seat forward with a long stem to achieve the same sag, due to different centers of gravity induced by their onboardf position). Trek (when I bought my Fuel 90) used to recommended 1/4" sag on the shock itself (using the rubber O-ring on shock shaft to measure) as a "starting point", and then adjust from there as per specific individual wants/needs. 1/4" of shock stroke translates to 1/2" of "rear travel" on the actual bike - just under 17% sag. Just adjust pressure until you achieve ballpark sag, and ride it and fine tune it from there...noone's gonna be able to say you need XXX amount of air - only YOU can decide what's right for your riding style.....sorry, but that's the best answer I have for ya :) |
| thanks, I'll tinker with that :-) n.m. | pg_PL May 25, 2003 12:05 PM | | |
