I currently am riding a 97 or 98 Cannondale Super v 1000 SL with a Fatty D headshok. I know that you can adapt a regular fork to it with a Cane Creek adapter. However I have heard the vicious rumour that a Manitou Sherman will fit with no need for an adapter. Is this true?

YES

Never had the oppertunity to work with one yet, but do know that they do make one. Titus even makes a 1.5 Quasi Moto with the sherman.

The Sherman comes in a 1.5" diameter steerer tube, which is the same as the headshok headtube, but I'm pretty sure you can't just take out your headshok and pop in a sherman. The new fork would just be pressing on the lower bearings without the proper race, so even if you could do it, I don't think it would be good for the headset.

However, in stead of the Cane Creek reducer headset (the double Xc), you can get the "one point five" version, (the double X) and then run the sherman through that. Forgive me if you know this, but the Cane Creeks aren't just adapters, they are whole headsets that fit directly into the headtube of the Cannondle frames. The other adapters, like "problem solvers", fit into the bearing cups that the headshok uses, then also require another headset, adding alot to your stack height. I'm running one of the double Xc headsets on my cannondale with a Psylo and it works great.

Here's more info from the Cane Creek site:

i appreciate your response. i actually was considering the psylo as well as the sherman but i am a clydesdale (290lbs) and was thinking the sherman could handle the weight better.
