I have a '96 Z2 that needs a new steer tube (steel) and I need to find a new one. Any ideas? (the crown is the three clamp style).

it'll be hard finding something like that thru retail. try calling zoke(661)257-6630. let 'em know what you need and they'll help you. i just called 'em today to replace my steerer tube on my '00 z2 atom 80 anf they quoted $60, not too bad and they are only 35 miles from me. maybe time for a quick jaunt at seirra pelona/5 deer?
Bolt on or press in?Ugly_Boyee

Press in should be done through Marzocchi, I had one done 2 months ago. It was $60 and I had back within 10 or 12 days. Cambria.com used to have some tubes for the bolt on type as well as Mud sweat and gears at bikeusa.com. Hope that helps.

i'm sure its pretty standard, i bet an LBS in town would have something kickin around in the has-been bin. I didnt have much trouble finding one for my '96 XC600.

I'd got a steel 1 1/8" from him ~$30 shipped a while back (it may not be quite that cheap, he had this one laying around for a while).
Larry's email is mtnhighcyclery@attbi.com

hmm, reminds me to ask him about a 1" steerer I'd asked him to order a while back....

also these guys used to stock steel steerers for $30/alu for $40

good luck,
