shylock/possum: cloud 9 Q's(2 posts)

shylock/possum: cloud 9 Q'sdogg

have you dialed in your settings? i've been riding with the cloud 9s for about 3 weeks now and can't seem to distinguish the shock response on a wide range of reb/comp settings (except near the extremes - full fast/slow). for now, my setup is 5 clicks from full fast on rebound, 2 clicks from minimum on compression at about 88 psi(gives me 25% sag). i'm 140 lbs. at these settings, i like the response on the small and continuous stutter bumps. but on isolated, sharp and medium size hits, i get bounced off the saddle violently sometimes. is there a compromise?

and btw, is there a way to minimize the squishy noise? it's no big deal but it kinda gets annoying sometimes when it really gets quiet on the trail as you cruise along.

I weigh the same as you and have mine set up with one click more rebound, 2 clicks more compression and ~85 psi. I would say that our setups are pretty much the same.

Also, like you I find that the C9 doesn't handle sharp, square-edged hits. My guess is that the all-air rebound circuit just can't handle the return. I'm going to try uping the rebound to 8-10 clicks on my ride this Wed to see if it starts to pack up. If it doesn't, then more rebound dampening is the way to go.

I'm on my second C9, my first one acted all goofy and wouldn't hold pressure in the main chamber. It seemed like air would never return from the compression chamber to the main, so each compression crammed more air into the compression chamber. It started making all sorts of odd noises, one of which was a noticable squish.

My 2nd C9 didn't squish out of the box, but developed the noise after a few weeks. Then, as suddenly as it showed up, it stopped. Now its super quiet. Way more quiet than the Float 100 RLC I have in front.

In my opinion, the Fox front end has much better dampening than the C9 rear. I attribute this to the oil vs air dampening difference between the systems.

Maybe I should've gone with a Fox rear, but user servicability goes a long way in my book.
