| Z1 FR SL loudly "klacking" | rodiS Oct 12, 2003 8:56 AM | | My brandnew Z1 FR SL has play between the retention ring and the top cap on the damper side. This results in a loudly "klacking" sound every time the fork starts moving or fully extends.
Any thoughts?

| A topout whack or a start of travel whack? | Tscheezy Oct 12, 2003 9:49 AM | | If you don't have enough negative pressure (center valve on the left leg), the fork tops out violently. My pump allowed some air to escape when removing the Zoke adapter so I lose about 50psi. I pump to 200, so when I take the pump off I end up at 150. The start of my travel is rough until the oil bath gets the bushings lubed again, but the roughness only lasts a few strokes so that is probably not your problem.
I have not been into the fork yet, so I have not seen the "retention ring". Can you cut a plastic shim or something to eat up some space?

| Both | rodiS Oct 12, 2003 12:51 PM | | The top cap can be moved about 1mm up and down the damping rod even when the retention ring is properly pressed in. Never noticed that on my other Zockies.
Will add negative pressure and see what happens. Thanks for the answer, anyway.

| Oh no, the infamous Marzocchi Klack!!!! | Metroid Oct 13, 2003 5:10 AM | | It's normal, they all do that. You should sell it immediately and buy a Fox Vanilla. The Fox might clunk but at least they don't klack. |
