| Rebuild or Replace a Blown Fork? | Colon Oct 13, 2003 7:24 AM | | I just blew the seals on my 03 Psylo SL after about 15 months of X-country trail-riding. I'm 190 lbs so I am a heavyweight, but I think I am easy on my bike.
Is it better to re-build the fork, or purchase a new one? If I rebuild, how long can I expect the seals to last? If I were to purchase a new fork, such as Manitou Minute 1, should I expect to have the seals blow on them so soon too? |

| Are you using the stock spring? | Metroid Oct 14, 2003 9:43 AM | | The stock spring is probably a bit weak for you depending on how much travel you typically run. The spring kits are about $90 so you would probably be better off with a new fork. I wouldn't think the rebuild would be much, just replace a seal or two and change the oil. Rock Shox has a pretty good manual with lots of pics for this. Check around on their website or call tech support for help. This way you could fix and sell the fork and not lose too much money. |
| Yes, stock spring | Colon Oct 14, 2003 1:09 PM | | The spring was always soft for me, but I didn't think that would affect the lifespan of the seals on the fork.
Anyways, after looking in my empty wallet, I've opted to rebuild the fork and put in new seals and a firmer spring. Thanks for the feedback though... |
