| help! TALAS travel adjustment knob just spinning freely... | cornfused Oct 16, 2003 9:01 AM | | Installed a new TALAS RL on my wife's bike last night. Played with the travel adjustment a little before I put it on and it seemed to be working fine. I put it on the bike and went to setting the sag and the travel adjuster just stopped working (the adjuster cap just spun freely). The fork just stayed in the shortest setting. I messed around with it a little, added more air, ended up pulling on it to extend it. Now it seems stuck in 5" mode and the adjuster cap continues to just spins freely. Anyone have this problem before? Any simple fix? Looks like Fox says that you should not open up that side of the fork leg unless you have the special tools required. |
| talked to Fox, they think it's hosed. Still would like to hear | cornfused Oct 16, 2003 9:29 AM | | from others that have had the same problem. |
| Sounds familiar. | Tscheezy Oct 16, 2003 9:48 AM | | I think people here experienced that and if my moldy old brain serves, someone just pumped the fork about a billion times while playing with the adjuster and got it to "catch" again. But then, your problem may be different...
sorry,

| Pretty sure it is hosed...happened to mine | Sunny Oct 16, 2003 10:52 AM | | ..twice! After it failed the second time in 3 months (took one month to get it fixed and shipped the first time), I asked the LBS to buy it back. They did and I went back to my '02 Psylo Race. |
| How would you rate your Psylo compared to the Talas? | Mario Oct 17, 2003 6:21 AM | | I assume you're gonna say the Talas is much more stiff but as far as the plushness and suspension performance is concerned, would you say the Talas was better or worse? Thanks. |
| Actually, I like the Psylo better... | Sunny Oct 17, 2003 1:38 PM | | I can't say that I noticed any difference in the "stiffness" between the two but I am only ~135lb. Search for my name and TALAS...I posted some riding impressions on it in the past.
In short, the Fox damper felt harsh at speed. Tried thinner fork oil and lower pressure but didn't make a huge difference. For me, the Psylo Race (air sprung) was better at smoothing out the bumps.
Lacking in performance and reliability, I am so glad the LBS was willing to buy the TALAS back (John at Bow Cycle in Calgary is da man!) |
