| Question! Shock eye to eye length | lambhead Oct 16, 2003 9:12 AM | | what would happen if you put a longer length (eye to eye) shock on a LINKAGE bike that had spec'd a shorter length shock, BUT you kept the STROKE length the same. Would you effectively achieve more travel? I know the head angle would steepen and the BB would become higher (by the distance of the increse in the overall shock length), but it seems to me that since you are essentially moving the rear wheel further away from the back of the seat tube or seat, you could cheat a little more travel at the risk of changing the geometry of the overall bike. A little convoluted, I know but it's something that's been on my mind since I unhooked the shock on my Cove G-Spot and moved the rear triangle around into different positions. Any thoughts? |
| Rising rate linkage=yes, linear=no, falling rate=lose travel. | Tscheezy Oct 16, 2003 9:45 AM | | Or something like that. Basically it would be pointless unless you want a higher bb, steeper ha, etc. The stroke mainly determines the travel. If the linkage's leverage ratio on the shock changes dramatically through the stroke, moving to a different area of the linkage movement would affect ultimate travel.
