| how much stiffer is 20mm fork? | SinglePivot Jan 17, 2004 1:21 AM | | for instance, say a z1 FR QR vs a z1 FR 20mm. how noticeable is the difference of stiffness in the 2 forks?
thanks,

| it's the axle that is stiffer... | airwreck Jan 17, 2004 11:17 AM | | and it's an individual thing whether the stiffness is noticable. Although the extra material in the fork leg and the interface with the axle will contribute to overall fork stiffness as well.
Think of it in terms of your riding, the normal QR axle is a product of road riding, the 20mm of DH. Does your riding lean more towards road or DH? Do you want to run larger brake rotors? Are you the type of person that prefers strength over weight performance improvements?
That said, you can't rely on anyone else to say if You will notice the difference, since it is probably mostly a perceived difference. But 9mm axles are considerably more likely to fail.
p.s. My six inch travel bike is 20mm, my hardtail is 9mm, if I only had one bike it would be 20mm.

| it does add torsional stiffness to the fork as well nm | zedro Jan 17, 2004 1:19 PM | | |
| I tried to throw that in there... | airwreck Jan 17, 2004 7:03 PM | | "Although the extra material in the fork leg and the interface with the axle will contribute to overall fork stiffness as well." |
