What affect is there in breaking up an endurace ride?Echo

I am going to start riding to work, starting on my base miles. The ride is about 7.5 miles (shortest) each way. Does breaking up an endurance ride by 8 hrs reduce the overall effectiveness?

It's not as much as you might think. He says you get aerobic benefit even from 10-minute workouts spaced through the day, like parking two blocks from work or walking to lunch. Intuitively, it seems like doing the whole thing at once would be better, but in fact it doesn't seem to be a LOT better.
If you can find his books, published in the '70s and '80s (library should have them), you can calculate the aerobics "points" you get from a given ride/run/swim/whatever. Just for example, going 15 miles at 15mph in one shot would give you 21 points. Doing two 7.5 milers at the same speed would be 19.5 points. He says you need a minimum of 30 points per week for protection from heart disease, so doing either one four or five days a week would be plenty.
Obviously if you plan to do longer rides or races, you'll need to augment this with longer rides.

I too commute, roughly 6 miles each way. Some days i sprint from lights and stay on the tallest gear i can turn. Other days i spin..spin..spin. The only thing that stays the same is the distance and that i wont allow myself to go under a particular rate.
