how long to wait to train after flu?(2 posts)

how long to wait to train after flu?Moki
Mar 7, 2002 12:15 PM
Hello,
I came down with a pretty nasty cold (maybe flu) on Mon - fever, felt wasted, deep cough. Tue was the worst day and the last day I actually had a fever. Wed - still pretty wasted in AM, feeling decent PM. Thu (today) feeling decent, no 'below neck' symptoms except for deep cough, but not coughing up a whole lot.

Question: should I take an easy 1hr spin on the rollers tonight or will it serve no purpose.

I just turned pro and had been training 15hr/wks prior to this, so Im afraid of losing too much fitness.

Thanks in advance.

The biggest mistake you can do is to train when you are sick or not totally recovered from it. Those one hour spinning sessions don't really contribute much for your fitness so I would still postpone for day or two. There are couple of rules that are good to follow. Never train when having fever and don't start training until your temp. has been normal for couple of days. When you don't have fever but feel little crappy, just skip the hard sessions. Maybe just do some base endurance and improve your bike handling skills.
Hope you have already gotten better.
