Stationary Bike or Trainer?Newbie

Which is more effective, a Stionary Bike or an MTB Traniner? I am still deciding for the right equipment because I plan to do regular training during weekends (early morning before work) then do long rides (xc) during weekend. In my opinion, I find the stationary bike more suitable because you can easily adjust tension and simulate pedaling hills or flats. Maybe you guys can give me a better idea. Thanks.

You need a trainer because you can use your bike and the fit will be the same. Also you can get a resistance type trainer that will have all the hill simulation you'll need. Prop the front wheel of the bike up and work hill climing muscles or sin in an easy gear. Forget the stationary bike.

I have both and would suggest the trainer.
My stationary bike has a wide, flat seat that I can't tolerate very long and isn't interchangable with a regular bike seat. In addition to that, the weird, non-interchangable handlebars interfere with my knees if I try to stand and sprint/climb.
I now use a magnetic trainer that someone gave me, but would probably get a fluid trainer if I bought one. It is better to use a slick tire on the trainer, so I use an old bike to avoid having to swap tires back and forth. I also added a computer with cadence so I can work on leg speed and tempo drills.
