Chamois Cream(5 posts)

I have an older pair of PI Ultra Sensor shorts that the chamois is hardening up on and irritates my thigh on longer seated sections. Will chamois cream help with this? Is there any thing else that can be used in place of specific chamois cream? Vaseline?

try Balm Bag available in CVS and hardware stores. This stuff works (they've been around since 19th century) and it's very reasonably priced. All RAAM racers use it. I usually carry some in 35mm film container you need to apply very little.

PS. it maybe time for new shorts. try Voler their chamois doesn't cause chaffing. You can get Voler made shorts off IMBA for 35$ good luck

I've been using A+D Ointment. It's about $3.50 a tube, has mostly petroleum jelly (aka, Vaseline) and lanolin. It's great for lessening saddle sores, though I'm not sure that it's going to solve your shorts problem (the newer PI shorts have a great chamois--might be time to invest).

I just bought a new pair of Sugoi shorts, the salesman never said anything about putting any cream on them, this is the first pair that i have had, but is this needed? or just after they start to wear out?

sounds weird, but Noxzema (spelling?) works ok. I'd just get new shorts though. Assos or Castelli.
