Which rolls faster...Pythons, Zed Race, Fire XC (9 posts)
| Which rolls faster...Pythons, Zed Race, Fire XC | Philip Mar 17, 2002 9:43 PM | | If you had to choose a fast rolling tire would you put on the Python Air lite 2.0, Panaracer Fire XC 1.8, or ZED race 1.9? Tough choice for next weekend!! |
| Pythons rock! Panaracers too knobby, more resistent. (nm) | Laura Mar 18, 2002 5:01 AM | | . |
| Personally... I'd take the Panaracers | Chip Mar 18, 2002 8:57 AM | | But I like a full knobby tire. And the FireXC works great in *most* conditions. Not so good for mud... |
| Personally... I'd take the Panaracers | WarrGuru Mar 19, 2002 7:21 AM | | Fire Xc is a great tire, but not for racing. |
| Were you going to explain why? | Chip Mar 20, 2002 7:37 AM | | Or is this just a personal opinion?
Hmmm... That would be like me saying "Hutchinson Pythons blow." With no further comment... |
| Sorry about that | WarrGuru Mar 21, 2002 6:38 AM | | I did explain in a post.....Unfortunately it wasn't this one.
The Panaracer Fire XC Pros are just too aggressive (tread pattern)for most XC Racing. They don't roll smoothly....ie High Rolling Resistance. Also, if you run into any sticky mud, the Pros will clog up quickly. Most XC courses don't have hills that require a full knobby.
I race XC on Hutchinson Python Air Lites, Bontrager Revolt Super X and BOntrager Revolt SS. The Pythons and Super X are great all condition tires. I run the SS if the course is mostly dry hardpack. |
| Personally... I'd take the Panaracers | THB Mar 23, 2002 10:43 AM | | I ridden the fireXC 2.1 in slippery type mud and they worked great
even when climbing what other ppl were walking up I was riding |
| re: Which rolls faster...Pythons, Zed Race, Fire XC | newbie Mar 19, 2002 8:42 PM | | If you want low rolling resistance tire and is cheap, then try Kenda Koyote... If you can find one. =) |
| Fire's a lot of things...fast it isn't | Patchito Mar 20, 2002 6:52 PM | | It's a decent all around tire, though I've soured on it recently. My new all purpose tire of choice is the Python. You can get airlights through Nashbar pretty cheaply right now as well, so that's an added bonus. They give good grip in most all conditions - better than the Fires I think - and are pretty fast rollers; in fact, they're much faster rollers than the Fires. |
