weight loss help!!!(5 posts)

weight loss help!!!ringlord

Looking for some advice on dropping 15-20 lbs. For years I was at 180 lbs (6'1" tall) and then I got married. One year later I weigh a robust 205 and can really feel it when I ride. I try to eat relatively healthy and I weight lift and ride 2/3x a week and but I can't drop this annoying "puss gut".
I need to get on this now as any additional weight gain may cause me to loose my girlish figure forever!
Please advise.

I've been using Weight Watchers for a couple months now and it has helped me drop almost 30 pounds in a few months. I do that with weight lifting every other day and some type of cardio about every day with varying intensities. You may also want to look into the Atkins Diet for a quick weight drop. I have done both and both will work.

I had the same problem. I was 165 and in good shape, then I met my wife and ballooned over the next year and a half to 185. After Struggling on the bike at 185 I decided I needed to get stronger to carry that weight and drop a few pounds. I dropped my caloric intake by eating the same meals just less of them for lunch (half a hero instead of the whole thing) and snacking mostly on fruit. I hit the gym last winter and by only doing strength training 3-4 times a week I got down to 170 pounds. During the spring I started riding more and dropped another 7 pounds by mid summer. I didn't do anything crazy, no supplements just consistent work.

they all do the same thing. They restrict calorie intake by having you stick to some kind of regimented eating. Of course, the hard part is sticking to the diet!
I think the Atkin's diet or that kind of diet's main appeal is that they claim you can lose the weight while not feeling hungry and eating anything you want other than carbs.
I've tried it for the experience. I was still hungry probably because finding enough to eat while avoiding carbs is somewhat difficult, or at least I found it to be so. Also it's very hard to exercise with any volume or intensity since your glycogen starved. Maybe I didn't give it enough time.
What I've found works best, is to listen to your body. If you're hungry it's probably a good bet your burning more calories than your consuming, so you're bound to lose weight. If you don't wake up in the morning hungry you probably ate too much the day before.

Calories consumed must be less than calories expended. Eat smaller meals (5-6x/day) to keep your resting metabolic rate elevated throughout the day and add weightraining and cardio on nonconsecutive days. The ATKINS diet is the worst thing you can possibly do. Carbohydrates are the primary fuel used during high intensity aerobic exercise and are the exclusive fuel for the brain and stem. it will provide a quick means of weightloss but the long-term effects really outweight the short-term weight-loss. Elevated cholesterol levels, increased chance of Coronary heart disease etc, etc due to a consistent diet of meats and other foods that are high in fats and protein but lack CHO? Remember everything in moderation.
