Hey all,

I have an elliptical machine (you know, one of those cross country skiing things) and because ive gained 10 lbs over the last month ive decided to get working!.

Has anybody else used a machine like this for cycling? If so, could they tell me their results?

Of course, nothing beats cycling for cycling fitness, but I use an elliptical trainer 3 to 4X per week, and it works very well. It's a very effective way to burn calories (much more so than cycling) as you have to support your body weight which requires more muscles, etc. I use it often because it's very easy on my arthritic knees. Two years ago I lost approx 15 lbs (180 to 165 lbs) almost exclusively using the elliptical trainer.

By the way, I tend to use moderate resistance at higher velocity (185 - 200 strides per minutes) on the manual setting. I'm sure that if I was able to cycle more I would increase my cycling specific fitness, but the elliptical trainer has certainly enabled me to maintain my base fitness level (and weight).

Good luck in your training.
